How to stop Microsoft Project progress bar extending beyond status date

In other scheduling tools such as Primavera P6, a task's progress bar (actual bar) is on the left of the status date (data date in P6) but with Microsoft Project, the Status Date is disregarded and it is common to see progress bars in the "future", i.e. progress bars extending beyond the status date.

While the “Mark on Track” button in Microsoft Project will make sure your progress bar does not extend beyond the Status Date, it would by design auto-calculate the % Complete for you. If your task’ % Complete is not the same as the one auto-calculated by the Mark on Track button, a different % Complete will either see the progress extend beyond the Status Date or fall short of it.

In this video, I present a workaround that will ensure that your progress bars are always left of the Status Date line (even for in-progress tasks) irrespective of the entered % Complete.

This workaround assumes you have a proper schedule with no actual dates later than the Status Date.
